Mr Scott’s Watch

‘Before they left, (Euroa), the man Byrne returned to the door of the hut and said, “I want to see Mr Scott, give me your watch.” I said, “No I won’t. You can take it if you like,” and he accordingly unhooked it and carried it away.’

The Argus, December 14, 1878.

On Tuesday evening, while the gang were making preparations to leave Faithfull’s Creek, Joe returned to the storeroom, where the male prisoners were locked, and ordered Robert Scott to hand over his watch. Whether Joe had eyed it earlier that day is obviously not known, but the watch was certainly on his mind as he was preparing Music and he made sure not to leave without it in his pocket.
